Battle Point Park
11299 Arrow Point Drive NE
Bainbridge Island, WA 98110
The old transmitter building in the center of the park has been preserved from the 1940's when the property was the former US Naval Transmitter Station Puget Sound and was used to relay radio signals to and from the South Pacific. It had fallen into disrepair until a group of island residents in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District formed the Transmitter Building Renovation Project Committee in 2003 to convert the 3,000+ square foot building into a modern gymnastics and activities center for Bainbridge youth.
Organizers held the Grand Opening of Phase 1 (the upstairs) on February 22, 2008. This project is being funded through a combination of private donations, grants from the Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation and the Rotary Club, as well as the Bainbridge Island Metro Parks and Recreation District (BIMPRD) itself.
Each year for three years now the Bainbridge Bluegrass Festival is held at the south end of Battle Point Park as a fund raising event for the Transmitter Building renovation.
